Q&A with Stephen Hackett
GU ATHLETE:Â Stephen Hackett
NICKNAME: Hackey Â

SPORT:Â TriathlonÂ
Â
Proudest athletic accomplishment? Twice placing 3rd at the Los Angeles Triathlon.Â
Â
Funny racing/training story? Nothing that I can mention - most of my training rides are pretty interesting with Crowie (Craig Alexander) and Barny (Paul Matthews) telling stories. Â
Â
What’s the most annoying thing a spectator has ever said to you while you were racing? One thing I can't handle is being told you look good when you’re totally trashed at the end of a race. Also, at the L.A. Triathlon, I was sent the wrong way by the police!Â
Â
What characteristics do you most respect in your competitors? Competitors who never give up, no matter what has gone wrong during the race. Â
Â
If you could only do one of your three sports, would you choose swimming, biking or running? Probably biking - I enjoy the training the most out of all three, mainly because it's more social then swimming or running.Â
Â
If you were not a pro athlete, what would you do professionally? Id love to be a pro surfer – well, to have that lifestyle anyway, traveling the world’s best surf breaks!
Â
How do you reward yourself when you reach a key goal? I have not reached it yet!!
Â
If you were a contestant on Survivor, what would be your one comfort item from home? Probably my mountain bike so i wouldn’t have to walk everywhere. And a surfboard if it was somewhere with good surf!Â
Â
Three things people don’t know about you? I work during the Australian summer as a Builder, to fund my racing in the U.S (hopefully soon i can concentrate on triathlon 100%). I love to surf! My sister is Nicole Hackett, who has won two junior and one senior ITU world titles.
